		<title>5 issues that need to be addressed when working out</title>

This morning was the second day of 2012 and my quest is on, like Donkey Kong. But as I was rowing this morning I remembered some things from my 2011 quest that need to have the flash light shined on. Maybe they will help you avoid the same mistakes and give you a heads up on where the challenges will come from.</p>
<ul>
<li><strong>Fueling up</strong> &#8211; I had the thought yesterday that I needed to pin down my food intake because it was going to have to be different than when I rode at 6 am last year.  Normally it&#8217;s a handful of supplements, stretch, meal replacement shake, bathroom and then workout.  However today I ended up going 6,400 meters (plus 80 push ups plus 160 sit ups plus 5 burpees plus 3 pull ups) BEFORE I had my shake.  The result was that I bonked before the last set of push ups.  You need to figure out your calorie intake but we willing to screw it up a few times to get it right.  I did the same thing last year when the miles on the bike started to pile up.  I guess the point is don&#8217;t get derailed on your quest because fueling up was an issue.  Even more importantly have your plan for post workout fuel pinned down.  I inhale a post workout recovery shake plus fiber (because I&#8217;m a male over 40).  Do whatever works for you just make sure there&#8217;s a mix of protein and carbohydrates going into your body within 15 minutes of finishing.</li>
<p></p>
<li><strong>Do the math</strong> &#8211; track your progress daily.  The reason I won last year (26,000 push ups plus 52,000 sit ups plus 6,000 miles riding) was because I &#8220;saw the output&#8221;.  I know how many push ups I needed on any given day and I did that amount and no more.  Everyone once in a while I tested myself and found out that I could double my normal but the point was to go the distance and not peter out 90 days in.  I use Excel.  So for this years quest I need to do 71.23 pushups, 142.47 sit ups, 1.37 pull ups, 2.74 burpees and 2,739.73 meters per day for 365 days to hit the goal.  Either I hit at least those numbers or I don&#8217;t, either way the quest is over on 12/31/12.  One thing I am doing this year is to also have a weekly minimum, that way when I have to travel I&#8217;ll be able to cover my numbers rather than stress about how to make my numbers.</li>
<p></p>
<li><strong>Be aggressive early</strong> &#8211; last year I had a jack ass attitude in the beginning of the year.  I think I had 19 days of zero&#8217;s by the end of February in the push up column.  That was when I learned to track the numbers on a daily basis.  Don&#8217;t be a hyper aggressive fool and hurt yourself but don&#8217;t miss days early on.  Acknowledge your issues by doing the math in the step before.  I&#8217;ve dislocated my right shoulder 16 times and my left shoulder 8 times and so have scar tissue and other issues with both shoulders.  I told myself to &#8220;watch out&#8221; and don&#8217;t push myself on any given day because then the strain of catching up was going to cost me.  In effect my limiting factor (as is everyone&#8217;s) is to hit the goal without getting injured or creating more issues in the process.  If you get injured, coming back will put more strain on the injury, which starts a bad cycle.  It&#8217;s smartest to be aggressive with consistency than aggressive with frequency or quantity.</li>
<p></p>
<li><strong>This discipline will carry over</strong> &#8211; If you can be loyal to the quest and adopt the discipline (just 1 day at a time) the resulting increase in personal power will spill over into other areas of your life.  Just be ready, don&#8217;t go into &#8220;look at me&#8221; mode but rather slip into &#8220;who can I serve with this energy&#8221; mode.  So, because the spill over is highly positive, don&#8217;t back off, do what you&#8217;re doing hard and with intensity.</li>
<p></p>
<li><strong>Be a normal person</strong> &#8211; I am a normal person.  I&#8217;m not a personal trainer or a body builder or a workout fanatic.  My 2012 quest is centered around time efficiency.  None of what I am sharing applies to workout professionals, ultra distance athletes, real cyclists (like the guys &#038; gals who attack counter attack counter to split the field for a tactical reason, make it to a break, contribute to a break staying, sprint for a line and have something to show for it &#8211; like upgrade points or FPS points or cash, etc.), group x teachers, cross fit guru&#8217;s &#8211; all of those guys and gals are a breed apart.  These thoughts are for normal, everyday mom&#8217;s and dad&#8217;s who are looking to sustain a physical quest long term on about 30 to 45 minutes a day.  I hope I didn&#8217;t insult anyone, sorry if I unintentionally did though.

<p>The mission is officially accomplished!  I knocked out 26,454 Push Ups, 52,748 and 6,000.8 miles on the bike.  It was definitely a mental and physical stretch but the thing that almost killed it was the travel schedule.  After April I traveled ALOT and it impacted my routine in a big way.  I was also fascinated at how many people I know also set goals that were similar.<br />
<br />
I owe a huge thank you to Yvette &#038; David Sanborn of <a href="http://www.davidsworld.com" target="_blank">David&#8217;s World Cycle</a> for loaning me the bike that made this possible. </p>
<p>My 2012 goals are due by 12/31/12 and are:</p>
<ul>
<li>25,000 Push Ups</li>
<li>52,000 Sit Ups</li>
<li>1,000 Burpees</li>
<li>500 Pull Ups</li>
<li>1,000,000 Meters rowing on a Concept 2</li>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>I&#8217;ve been getting into some recent discussions about money.  Not necessarily making money but how to preserve, invest and grow what you already have.  I&#8217;m very tight lipped about this subject b/c it&#8217;s highly non-duplicatible AND somewhat scary.</p>
<p>@Kimberly Buttar and I don&#8217;t have a savings account, IRA&#8217;s, 401K&#8217;s, SEP IRA&#8217;s or any kind of money manager.  We also don&#8217;t believe in the tooth fairy, santa claus, US Monetary Policy or the that the governments will / wants to take care of us.</p>
<p>We follow guides like Robert Kiyosaki and David Novac, movies like <a href="http://www.sonyclassics.com/insidejob/" target="_blank">Inside Job</a> and utilize &#8220;non-traditional&#8221; methods of growing what we make.  Some  of these &#8220;non-traditional&#8221; methods are:</p>
<ul>
<li> Taking 100% personal responsibility for our results &#8211; wins &amp; losses.</li>
<li>Investing in our own financial education like <a href="http://www.theelevationgroup.net/capture.php?a_aid=158910" target="_blank">Elevation Group</a>, <a href="http://www.wealthwiseeducation.com/" target="_blank">Wealthwise Education </a>and <a href="http://www.conspiracyoftherich.com/" target="_blank">Robert Kiyosaki&#8217;s projects</a>.</li>
</ul>
<p>If you believe that you will have more money at any point in your life, the next question will become (if it hasn&#8217;t already) how do I keep more of what I make?  How can I pass on what I make?  By far the most helpful resource has been <a href="http://www.theelevationgroup.net/capture.php?a_aid=158910" target="_blank">Elevation Group</a> b/c of the how to&#8217;s.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>A successful business man was growing old and knew it was time to choose a successor to take over the business.</p>
<p>Instead of choosing one of his Directors or his children, he decided to do something different. He called all the young executives in his company together.</p>
<p>He said, &#8220;It is time for me to step down and choose the next CEO. I have decided to choose one of you. &#8220;The young executives were Shocked, but the boss continued. &#8220;I am going to give each one of you a SEED today &#8211; one very special SEED. I want you to plant the seed, water it, and come back here one year from today with what you have grown from the seed I have given you.<br />
I will then judge the plants that you bring, and the one<br />
I choose will be the next CEO.&#8221;</p>
<p>One man, named Jim, was there that day and he, like the others, received a seed. He went home and excitedly, told his wife the story. She helped him get a pot, soil and compost and he planted the seed. Everyday, he would water it and watch to see if it had grown. After about three weeks, some of the other executives began to talk about their seeds and the plants that were beginning to grow.</p>
<p>Jim kept checking his seed, but nothing ever grew.</p>
<p>Three weeks, four weeks, five weeks went by, still<br />
nothing.</p>
<p>By now, others were talking about their plants, but Jim didn&#8217;t have a plant and he felt like a failure.</p>
<p>Six months went by &#8212; still nothing in Jim&#8217;s pot. He just knew he had killed his seed. Everyone else had trees and tall plants, but he had nothing. Jim didn&#8217;t say anything to his colleagues, however, he just kept watering and fertilizing the soil &#8211; He so wanted the seed to grow.</p>
<p>A year finally went by and all the young executives of the company brought their plants to the CEO for inspection.</p>
<p>Jim told his wife that he wasn&#8217;t going to take an empty pot. But she asked him to be honest about what happened. Jim felt sick to his stomach, it was going to be the most embarrassing moment of his life, but he knew his wife was right. He took his empty pot to the board room. When Jim arrived, he was amazed at the variety of plants grown by the other executives. They were beautiful &#8212; in all shapes and sizes. Jim put his empty pot on the floor and many of his colleagues laughed, a few felt sorry for him!</p>
<p>When the CEO arrived, he surveyed the room and greeted his young executives.</p>
<p>Jim just tried to hide in the back. &#8220;My, what great plants, trees and flowers you have grown,&#8221; said the CEO. &#8220;Today one of you will be appointed the next CEO!&#8221;</p>
<p>All of a sudden, the CEO spotted Jim at the back of the room with his empty pot. He ordered the Financial Director to bring him to the front. Jim was terrified. He thought, &#8220;The CEO knows I&#8217;m a failure! Maybe he will have me fired!&#8221;</p>
<p>When Jim got to the front, the CEO asked him what had happened to his seed &#8211; Jim told him the story.</p>
<p>The CEO asked everyone to sit down except Jim. He looked at Jim, and then announced to the young executives, &#8220;Behold your next Chief Executive Officer!</p>
<p>His name is Jim!&#8221; Jim couldn&#8217;t believe it. Jim couldn&#8217;t even grow his seed.</p>
<p>&#8220;How could he be the new CEO?&#8221; the others said.</p>
<p>Then the CEO said, &#8220;One year ago today, I gave everyone in this room a seed. I told you to take the seed, plant it, water it, and bring it back to me today. But I gave you all boiled seeds; they were dead &#8211; it was not possible for them to grow.</p>
<p>All of you, except Jim, have brought me trees and plants and flowers. When you found that the seed would not grow, you substituted another seed for the one I gave you.
