I took in 2,343 calories.
The net deficit was 1,173 calories.
I slept 5:31  I don’t know why I’m not sleeping well, maybe stressed out.

Bottom line – Today was a win.

For those who asked…yes I still have a training dairy and yes you can still see it.  It’s here and I usually update it every few days.

Wednesday, May 17, 2017 – Day 17
Aikido in the evening and burned 484 calories.  It was very very very hard.  All this test prep is wearing my silly ass down.  It’s good in the sense that I’m getting plenty of reps but the hard part is to be mindless.  Meaning to be “on” but “off” at the same time.  The test is the sensei calling out a specific attack and the technique they want to see demonstrated.  The issue is the library of techniques is so HUGE that it takes some time to “find it” in your mind.  Last night I had to go completely mentally silent so I could get to the right technique when it was called.  Truly this is a very interesting experience.

I had 5 meals each

Tuesday, May 16, 2017 – Day 16
Aikido in the evening and burned 296 calories.  Needed to be Mr. Mom for a few hours and almost didn’t get any workout in (forced recovery) but it all worked out.  But the win was eating!!!  I cut out my smoothie and added in real food – the difference was remarkable.  No hunger at all.

I had 5 meals each in the 480 calorie range.
For the day I burned 2,564 calories.
I took in 2,361 calories.
The net deficit was 203 calories.
I slept 7:16
I drank 147 oz of water.
Bottom line – Today was a big win.

For those who asked…yes I still have a training dairy and yes you can still see it.

Monday, May 15, 2017 – Day 15
OTF with my coach Sarah, the machine whacked out and said I burned 702 calories.  In the evening I did Aikido and saw God.  I got on the rivet and couldn’t get off – think depleted.  Like a grape turned into a prune.  I had nothing in the gas tank, zero reserves.  But developing the mind that will allow you to put out even when nothing is there is a goal all athletes need to develop.  I survived and burned up 596 calories.  After class Weiner Sensei guided my food intake a bit.  His assessment was I was drastically under eating, so we stopped tracking Advocare products and just concentrated on whole food intake.  I also cracked at 10:30 pm and eat 2 oz of nuts.  This

Sunday, May 14, 2017 – Day 14
Today was mothers day.  We did OTF in the morning and I put out 816 calories.  We adjusted my weight in the system because I’ve lost a bunch.  But it’s so weird, when I raced a bike we kept our HR zones the same regardless of how heavy or fit we were.  Meaning my anaerobic threshold is a range between 164 to 177 – it never changed.  Interesting stuff.  Another thought I had today was when I trained to race a bike I trained different energy systems to provide the energy during different situations.  The energy demands of a 100 KM Pro, 1, 2 criterium are different than a 3 hour group ride.  In the crit I would be in the red zone 95% of the time

Saturday, May 13, 2017 – Day 13
I did Aikido in the morning  and burned up 561 calories in class.  I felt like my center of balance was low and I had huge output – on good knee days I feel very agile.  This morning was one of those days.  I think the Thursday workout at OTF put me in a hole that exhibited itself at 2:15 pm today.  My meals were buying me literally 1:20 of satiation and then I fell off a cliff.  3 times.  I also had a Yasso bar – frozen yogurt.  Good stuff.

I had 5 meals each in the 480 calorie range.
For the day I burned 3,219 calories.
I took in 2,595 calories.
The net deficit was 624 calories.

Friday, May 12, 2017 – Day 12
I did OTF in the morning with Sarah T.  Awesome class but was a soft from yesterdays test set.  I burned 817 calories.  I looked at the HR profile last night and it appears that my heart rate is dropping too low too fast (which is a sign of fitness).  It’s unavoidable when you’re standing watching the coach demo the TRX and body weight exercises.  So my new plan is to hit the rowing a little harder and keep the treadmill recovery intervals a little faster – basically prevent recover where and when I can but not so much that I can’t do the work interval with quality.

I had 4 meals each in the 480 calorie range.
Meal 2 were 3 Neelys Mealies

Thursday, May 11, 2017 – Day 11
I did Aikido in the morning  and burned up 385 calories in class.  Back sore, knee swollen but Rob Benningfield (my chiro and ART) worked me over.  I did the 4:30 pm OTF class and was able to hit it hard – no back or knee issues.  It was a test set where you had to do as many rounds as possible in 22 minutes.  A round included .13 miles on the tread (b/c I walk instead of run) and then row 200 meters.  My treadmill interval was 8% incline @ 4.2 mph.  My rowing intervals were 460 to 480 watts with 16 to 20 strokes in about :25.  The tactic was to attack the row and recover on the treadmill – which worked.  I sustained attacking

Wednesday, May 10, 2017 – Day 10
I did Aikido in the evening and burned up 265 calories in class.  Got hurt – back and knee, had to leave the mat early.

I had 5 meals each in the 480 calorie range.  Because I changed green beans to peas, I picked up more calories.
For the day I burned 2,798 calories.
I took in 2,357 calories.
The net deficit was 441 calories.
I slept 6:59
I drank 123 oz of water.
Bottom line – Today was ok.

Tuesday, May 9, 2017 – Day 9
I did Aikido in the evening and burned up 406 calories in class.  Before that I had some kind of cold laser treatment on my knees and it was off the hook awesome!!!!!!!  Class started like normal and then after the warm up fight club started – all out until the end of the class.  I worked Ji-waza with my Sensei Jonathan Weiner (4th Dan), Brent Goodroe (1st Kyu) and Jack Freund (2nd Kyu) – basically these guys move quickly, accurately and throw with force.  Which in turn means you have to be mentally present and flowing – the more you slip into oxygen debt the less you can be present and the less you flow thereby increasing the chance of injury.  It was a great workout
