Sunday, May 14, 2017 – Day 14
Today was mothers day. We did OTF in the morning and I put out 816 calories. We adjusted my weight in the system because I’ve lost a bunch. But it’s so weird, when I raced a bike we kept our HR zones the same regardless of how heavy or fit we were. Meaning my anaerobic threshold is a range between 164 to 177 – it never changed. Interesting stuff. Another thought I had today was when I trained to race a bike I trained different energy systems to provide the energy during different situations. The energy demands of a 100 KM Pro, 1, 2 criterium are different than a 3 hour group ride. In the crit I would be in the red zone 95% of the time but on a group ride I’d be in the red zone 1% of time (only for sprints). All of this is to say that I’m used to building my energy systems and then utilizing that energy at strategic times during a race. Another way to think of this is cyclists put a ton of time in training so that when the decisive break forms they can “tap into that reserve”. OTF is very much like swimming. You do the interval coach tells you – that’s it. You never really get to use that fitness unless you do other things. I am seeing a distinct uptick in my Aikido fitness because this OTF business is on point. After OTF we wake surfed. Then I cooked for 5 hours straight. Then I wake surfed again.
I had 4 meals each in the 480 calorie range.
Meal 5 was a freaking 476 calorie Cupcake. I made cupcakes for Kim but each 1 was battle ship destroyer! 5 minutes after eating 1 I had a headache – will never do that again!!!!
For the day I burned 3,208 calories.
I took in 2,541 calories.
The net deficit was 667 calories.
I slept 6:53 (woke up dehydrated)
I drank 120 oz of water.
Bottom line – Today was a win.
